Is instagram turning into tumblr?

Hey folks! Welcome to another edition of Creator Talks. I’ve been on holiday and actually took a break (no pre-filmed/edited content to go out whilst I’m away for me, no thank you! - would recommend) 😝

But there’s been some things going on in the creator world I want to chat about and share with you! So here’s your 3 things I think are worth noting, thanks for reading!

I will be there! Let me know if you’re coming too.

YouTube Auto-Dubbing - YouTube will now auto-dub your videos into different languages. I don’t know about you but I have been receiving a lot of frustrated comments from international viewers as the AI dubbed version will automatically start playing for them. Honestly, I don’t know whether or not to switch it off. Maybe it’s helping lots of people too but they’re not commenting? How are you approaching this? Have you switched it off? Is it actually going to make our videos more accessible and reach wider audiences? Curious to hear your thoughts! (I can always share responses in the next newsletter for everyone to read if that’s useful!)

Instagram’s new “re-post” feature - this feels very tumblr to me! I do like the idea of being able to see things the people I have followed re-posted over random “suggested” content that instagram thinks I’ll like (I always end up hiding suggested posts for 30 days). My two questions at this point are:

  • if you want to share someone else’s content with your followers, how do you decide if you share it to stories or re-post to feed?
  • will re-posting your own content become a growth strategy for creators?

Have you started using this new feature? How are you finding it?

Laura Clarke

I'm a queer sex educator and author who makes content about all things sex, relationships, feminism, gender and queerness. My book – Step Bi Step: The Ultimate Guide for Bisexual, Pansexual & Queer Young People* – comes out in September 2025 and is the first bisexual handbook specifically for teenagers.
No-one likes to talk about money but my biggest challenge is definitely motivation to create when the financial benefit is so low. I find it hard to put time into creating content when I know that time could be spent on other things that have financial gain, like my training and educating work with businesses and schools. I LOVE creating content, it's just very consuming and therefore hard to justify when you need to pay the bills!

How do you project manage your creator work? Over the years I’ve used Google Sheets, Trello, and Asana. Then one day I discovered Notion and I haven’t looked back. I get it’s not for everyone and there is a bit of a learning curve with it, but I love how customisable it is to create a system that perfectly reflects how my brain works. I’ve tried others’ templates and created many of my own databases constantly tweaking and updating them as needed. And now, it’s time. After years of being...

I know I normally promise short and sweet newsletters but forewarning this one is longer than usual because it’s a real deep dive into my short form strategy (or lack thereof). I hope this exploration is interesting or useful to you. I also share a mentoring and funding opportunity for creators at the end that I came across. The short form vs long form tension is one I’ve been experiencing for years and still haven’t cracked. Back in 2024 I even made a feature length long video about hiring a...

Well well well, another day another lesson learned. Welcome to Creator Talks where I share the business behind the scenes of being a creator with you. This newsletter edition is a doozy. A ridiculous story where if I think of the missed opportunity too much I might actually cry. But first some backstory. In 2024, when I started this arm of my business working with content creators I knew I needed an email list. So I started one with a free lead magnet of a social media content calendar Notion...
